Imagine you're about to cook a family dinner, and you need to think of a dessert food. But low and behold, someone in the family doesn't like chocolate. So, your idea of chocolate cake with chocolate frosting is out the window. But how do you satisfy the chocolate lovers while still respecting the ones who don't like chocolate? Well, you have a couple of options.

Dessert Foods with Chocolate Optional

When you have an impossible situation like that, you can choose to make more than one dessert food. You could go ahead and make that chocolate cake, then also make an apple pie or a lemon cake, you get the idea. Or you could make brownies and blondies. Or chocolate chip cookies and oatmeal scotchies. But making more than one dessert food calls for a lot of extra work and expense on your part.

Why not opt for a dessert food that makes chocolate optional? For example, you could make a basic cheesecake, then have a variety of toppings available. For the chocolate lovers, they could top their slice with chocolate syrup or crushed Oreos. The anti-chocolate people could top theirs with cherry pie filling or strawberries.

You could also have a "Create Your Own Sundae Bar." You provide vanilla ice cream, and you could have hot fudge, chocolate sprinkles, cherries, pineapple, bananas, strawberry sauce, caramel topping, nuts, etc. Just whatever you'd put on a normal sundae.

Too Many Choices?

The beauty of dessert food is the variety and number of choices you have. That makes it easy to please everyone. But it also makes it difficult if you go to a buffet. Do you choose cake, pie, pudding, brownies, jello, cheesecake...or a little of everything?? That kind of choice, coupled with only a little willpower and a hefty sweet tooth can lead to a heft waistline! So, you have to be careful. But still, it can be fun!
