Chocolate Chips
It doesn't always take a whole lot of work to make an old recipe into one that is fresh and exciting. Take chocolate chips for example. Most of us probably have some sitting in the cabinet right now. And they are probably the same chocolate chips that your mother used to make her famous cookies. If they are not the same brand, then they are pretty close, just your average store bought chips that are pulled out only when the mood for chocolate chip cookies strikes. But, changing up those chocolate chips can bring a whole new life to the old recipe!
Vary your chocolate chips
If you have a relatively sophisticated palette and fancy yourself to be someone who knows their way around good food, then why not carry that over to your cookies? Instead of using the chocolate chips that you have always used, get yourself some fine, gourmet chocolate chips. You will definitely taste the difference that using a finer chocolate will make - cookies like these, with a little more thought and a lot more distinction can also make a great gift. Wrap them us in a nice basket and someone will get a wonderful heart - felt homemade gift.
There are also a lot of flavors of chips. You can get them with a hint of raspberry or some other fruit or you can go with the white variety. With any chip you can add a more personal touch, maybe with the first initial of your children's names or a pumpkin shape for the holidays. This is especially neat if you use some of the small candies that are made for baking in lieu of chocolate chips. many of them are filled with chocolate, but have a hard candy coating is bold colors or pastels, whatever the season calls for.
There are a lot of great ways to give a bit more flavor and creativity to many of the items that you have been baking for years. Adding something a little different is also a good opportunity to get the kids involved with the baking and decorating. Kids get so used to things just appearing before them, it is a great lesson for any child to be a part of the process that eventually brings the goodies to the table.
