Now is the time of the year when all of the leaves are changing and there is a chill in the night air. It's exciting as we rake again and get a chance to don our favorite sweater that hasn't seen the light of day for some months. We know that it is the calm before the winter storms, but for many of us, it is the best time of the year. At home, many of our comfort foods are being prepared in an effort to stave off the cold and baking always seems to be on the rise. The oven probably didn't get too much action during those balmy summer days and nights, but now that it gets dark at 4pm, it seems there are even more reasons to stat baking up our favorites chocolate chip recipes.

Steering away from the standard chocolate chip recipe

The original chocolate chip cookie recipe is by far one of the most successful in any household. We grew up with them and just thinking about the smell in the house as they were baking brings a smile to our faces. How many memories that include oven mitts and a wire rack full of cooling chocolate chip cookies, so many, so many indeed. But, sometimes we have to think beyond the old favorites and make room for the possibility that there are a few good things out there that could also become our favorites. It can be a lot of fun to take some of the standard recipes that many of us are very familiar with and put a seasonal twist to them.

You don't have to rely only on neighbors and friends anymore to trade recipes with. There are all kinds of places to pick up various recipes to try and many of them change with the seasons. Going onto the Internet will turn up all kinds of choices. Try sticking with the chocolate chip theme and see what you can find. There are a lot of variations on traditional themes. Since it is fall and both Halloween and Thanksgiving are right around the corner, you might want to try a nice chocolate chip pumpkin bread - it goes great with some hot cocoa. Or maybe surprise the kids this weekend with some chocolate chip muffins waiting for them?
